How to Enhance the Windows in Your Home

How to Enhance the Windows in Your Home

Windows are a critical component of any good home. You need them to let in plenty of natural light so that you can have a wide, pleasant, and well-lit space. But you also don’t want to sacrifice privacy. It’s essential that you enhance your windows in the right way.

Weather Seal Them

This is the first step for any window in any home, no matter how cheap or low-end it is. Why? Well, to have a healthy and safe living space, you need to put in the time, effort, and money to maintain it properly. That means keeping out water and heavy moisture at all times.

A lack of maintenance in this area can result in serious damage to your walls, ceilings, and floors. Severe mold growth can result in illness. Make sure to use the proper materials (rubber strips, caulk, etc.) to weather-seal your windows.

Get Window Treatments

Window treatments are just a fancy way to say window coverings. The disadvantage of a lack of privacy that comes with a big window can be mitigated by good window treatments. Window treatments can help enhance your curb appeal and reduce sunlight as well.

Sunlight is good for most of the day–but there will be times when you want your room a little less well-lit. Some of the more classic options are fabric drapes, although a more aesthetically modern option would probably be blinds of some kind. You can find metal shutters that will completely shut out any outside light, or you can find slanted blinds made out of paper or plastic that can be rotated to cut out degrees of light.

Proper Window Maintenance

Good maintenance for windows can mean a lot of different things, depending on where you live. Essentially, you just need to make sure your window is cleaned, well-kept, and in good repair. If you live in an area with a high rate of storms, you will need to consider buying storm windows. Alternatively, you could also cover your windows with plywood or sheet metal when the storm arrives. Windows also tend to get noticeably dirty after rain. Fingerprints show up on windows a lot more clearly than in most places, so make sure to regularly clean both sides of the glass with Windex or another cleaner.

Good windows will mean a happy home. You’ll be able to enjoy the natural light and air that will enrich your interior spaces. That’s why it’s critical to take such good care of them–and to accessorize them as needed.
